Full Program of the Trnavská brána 2025 Folklore Festival

Holy Trinity Square will be adorned with traditional costumes and braided hair! Our city will once again be immersed in a folk atmosphere this year. The 24th edition of the international folklore festival Trnavská brána is slowly clicking its heels on the city's cobblestones. This year, the celebration of folklore will take place from June 13th to 15th on Trojičné námestie (Holy Trinity Square) and Hlavná ulica (Main Street). The program will culminate with a gala performance by SĽUK at the City Amphitheater.

A Festive Market Promenade

The artisan market will line the pedestrian zone every day from 10:00. This market corso will roll up its sleeves with traditional crafts and will be complemented by the popular city market on Friday and Saturday. The street gallery Trnavská brána vo fotografii will accompany the live performances with shots from previous years and views of the most beautiful corners of our city. And let everyone know that the festival is fun for kids too! A section of Hlavná ulica will transform into a Street of Games, where children can trade the Minecraft blocks on their phones for handmade games and toys on the pavement.

The Courtyard of Magical Threads Returns!

For the fourth year, the courtyard of the Creative Centre on Hlavná ulica will be dressed in lace and yarn. On Saturday, June 14th, the Dvor výšivky, čipky, tkania a pradenia (Courtyard of Embroidery, Lace, Weaving, and Spinning) will be set up here. 50 artisans from Slovakia and the Czech Republic will demonstrate the honest work and shining beauty of their crafts. An engaging lecture on baptismal cloths from western Slovakia will be given by Aneta Vlčková, an ethnologist from the West Slovakian Museum in Trnava. Michal Halabrín will speak about the magic of bobbins in Nové Mesto bobbin lace. Throughout the Trnavská brána festival, the courtyard of the Creative Centre will also feature the exhibition "Čaro baníckej čipky" by artisan Helena Drestová.

Friday at the Gate, a Celebration in the Streets

On Friday morning, Holy Trinity Square will transform into a children's folklore fiesta. The news is already spreading through the city: the dance school is a hit with the kids! They will be twirling at the folklore dance and singing school with DFS Drienka and DFS Trnavček.

It won't be quiet under the City Tower either. The folklore parade will kick off at 16:00 with FS Púčik from Brno. The ensemble brings together young Slovaks and Czechs who preserve and spread the beauty of Slovak folk heritage through dance and song. Their dynamic choreographies, lively folk music, and authentic costumes are regularly acclaimed at festivals at home and abroad. Braids will be plaited and feet will be tapping when Tanečné štúdio Rusalka takes the stage at 17:30 with their program “ZapleTANCE, PrepleTANCE”. The gates of Trnava will ceremoniously open at 19:00. Immediately after, the stage will belong to the festival's mainstays – the local ensembles DFS Trnavček and DFS Drienka. In a beautiful performance, they will show how they "danced their way to their 25th anniversary." The key will turn in Friday's gate with FS Družba from Trenčín. One of the oldest Slovak folklore ensembles celebrated its 70th anniversary last year and will close the first evening of Trnavská brána with the program „Prechodel som všetky dediny“.

A Saturday of Folklore and Fun

Before heels start tapping on the square on Saturday, our distinguished guests will knock on the gate of the Town Hall. At 10:00, the city will ceremoniously welcome the representatives of the ensembles, who will then proceed together in a traditional costumed parade through the city.

From 15:00, Holy Trinity Square will once again belong to children. In the program „Brána deťom otvorená“, children's folklore ensembles Čečinka from Bratislava, Čerešenka from Smolenice, Farkašínček from Vlčkovce, Kvetoňka from Sereď, Verešvaranček from Červeník, as well as local groups Drienka, Trnavček, and DSS Sláviček will dance and sing. You will also be able to admire wedding customs from the Trnava plain for hours. "O svadbe" (About the Wedding) at 17:00 will feature Podhoranka from Kočín-Lančár, DFSk Cífer, DFSk Mladosť from Šenkvice, and FZ Veterán from Trnava. The men's singing group Škrupinka will don the wedding hat at 18:30 with their performance „Veselme sa svati, maldoženích platí,“ and right after them, FS Púčik from Brno will wander through Slovakia. At 20:00, Škrupinka will present a humorous program „Kolko chlapov v jednej škrupinke,“ and the second festival evening will be closed at 20:30 by FS Furmani from Nitra with their program „Z blízka i zďaleka“.
